Carpentry
Carpentry is one of the oldest skilled trades and is still widely required in modern construction. It involves the cutting, shaping, and installation of wood (timber) for buildings and other structures. Carpentry is often part of the ‘first fix’ of timber components in the construction of roofs, floors, walls, and other timber-framed constructions. It is also often part of ‘second fix’ works, such as the construction of skirting boards, architraves, doors, and so on. Carpenters may also be required to prepare to shutter (formwork into which concrete is poured), building stairs, installing door and window frames, and so on.
A carpenter is one of the most necessary and most used of all building trades due to their specialized knowledge and the techniques that they use when working with wood. Here is what you need to know about carpentry. Rough carpentry is all work that doesn’t require a neat finish as it will be covered up by walls or other items. Structural carpentry is the most common type of rough carpentry and these carpenters are very skilled in quickly erecting the structural components of a building, such as beams, posts and rafters. Rough carpenters commonly work in roofing and framing.
